Moyes Rules Out Salah to Everton, Glad to See Back of Liverpool Star

Everton manager David Moyes has dismissed the possibility of signing Mohamed Salah as a free agent, stating the rivalry between the two Merseyside clubs makes such a move 'impossible'. Speaking on Egyptian TV station ON Sport, Moyes admitted he is 'glad to see the back of' the Liverpool legend after his decorated Anfield career ended last season.

Salah's Liverpool Legacy

Salah left Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season after a trophy-laden spell that included two Premier League titles, the 2019 Champions League, a Club World Cup, the FA Cup in 2022, and two League Cups. The 34-year-old Egypt captain scored nine goals against Everton during his time at Anfield, making him a persistent threat in the Merseyside derby.

Moyes, who returned to Goodison Park for a second stint in January 2026, was asked on the Egyptian broadcast whether he would consider signing the out-of-contract forward. He responded: 'No, no. Not possible. The rivalry is too big. Mohamed Salah's meaning to Liverpool is too big, so that would be impossible.'

'Glad to See the Back of Him'

While ruling out a move, Moyes praised Salah's impact at Liverpool. 'I am not a specialist on Mo Salah because my team is Everton and we are fierce competitors,' he said. 'But I think all Evertonians were glad to see the back of Mo because he has been so good over the years. He's been a great goalscorer, a good player and he has been enjoyed by the Liverpool supporters.'

Moyes added: 'So I think we are all glad to see that Mo is leaving Liverpool. I am sure it won't be the end for him. But the performances during his career at Liverpool have been exceptional.'

Salah's Future Uncertain

Salah has yet to announce his next destination since leaving Liverpool. He remains a free agent and is currently focused on Egypt's World Cup campaign in the United States, with a quarter-final against Argentina scheduled for Tuesday. The forward is expected to make a decision on his future after the tournament, with clubs from Saudi Arabia's Pro League and European sides reportedly interested.
