Man United learn Champions League opponents after league phase draw

Manchester United have discovered their opponents for the league phase of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League following Thursday evening's draw. United have been drawn against Bayern Munich (H), Atletico Madrid (A), Roma (H), Sporting (A), RB Leipzig (H), Villarreal (A), Sabah (H) and Como (A).

First Champions League campaign since 2023/24

This marks United's first appearance in the competition since the 2023/24 season, when Erik ten Hag's side finished bottom of their group. United secured just one win in that campaign, beating Copenhagen at Old Trafford, alongside a draw and four defeats in their other five matches.

Michael Carrick's chance to reach the knockout rounds

The current season offers Michael Carrick the opportunity to lead United back into the Champions League knockout stages, a feat they have achieved only once in the previous seven seasons. To progress, United must finish in the top eight of the 32-team league table, or navigate a play-off round if they finish between ninth and 24th.
