Liverpool have named a 23-man travelling squad for their Champions League clash with LASK in Austria, with Academy youngsters Josh Sonni-Lambie and Wellity Lucky called up as the Reds continue to deal with a lengthy injury list.
As expected, the squad is without forward duo Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo, along with midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, for the game in Linz. All three were missing from Sunday's 3-0 Premier League defeat at home to Manchester City.
Injury concerns confirmed
Andoni Iraola already knew he would be without long-term injury victims Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni as they continue their recovery. His fears over Isak, Gakpo and Szoboszlai have also been realised, with the trio failing to make the trip.
Isak picked up a thigh problem while playing for Sweden during the recent international break, Gakpo hurt his ankle on duty with the Netherlands, and Szoboszlai is nursing a hamstring complaint.
Iraola's options have been further limited by neither Wataru Endo nor Federico Chiesa being named in the Champions League squad for the league stage.
Academy reinforcements
As a consequence, the squad has been bolstered by the inclusion of Jayden Danns, James McConnell and Luke Chambers. Danns and McConnell last played in the Champions League for Liverpool when they started the 3-2 loss at PSV Eindhoven in January 2025, while Chambers' most recent European outing was in the Europa League 2-1 defeat at Union Saint-Gilloise in December 2023.
There is also room for Academy duo centre-back Wellity Lucky and forward Josh Sonni-Lambie. Both have previously featured for Liverpool in the UEFA Youth League, while Lucky made his senior debut in the League Cup loss to Crystal Palace last season.
Liverpool flew out to Austria on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the match the following evening, as they look to bounce back from their disappointing league reverse at the Etihad.
