Newcastle United defender Dan Burn is expected to boost his minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly in Kansas City today.
Burn was an unused substitute in the thrilling 4-2 World Cup victory in Texas as the 6ft 7in star watched on from the bench. However, he is confident that he will gradually make his mark in the tournament with group games against Ghana and Panama still to come in Boston and New Jersey.
Burn told Chronicle Live exclusively from Texas last night: "I do think I will get a chance at some point. It is just about when I do get that opportunity, taking it so whether I play most of the tournament or don't play any of it, I will still feel I have contributed."
Burn celebrated the victory at the home of the Dallas Cowboys as a crowd of over 70,000 contributed to a roaring atmosphere beneath the closed roof. England stars Harry Kane (2), Jude Bellingham and substitute Marcus Rashford contributed in a 4-2 victory that got the Three Lions off to a flying start.
Burn said: "It was a good start - the second half we definitely played better than the first but I thought that was the standard in the second half. And if we keep doing that, we should do well in the tournament."
The Blyth battler is the only remaining Newcastle star in the England camp. When the squad was named, the Magpies had three players picked but since then Anthony Gordon has left the club for Barcelona in a £70million move and Tino Livramento pulled out injured this week.
Burn is likely to figure in the game in Kansas City today alongside the likes of Jordan Henderson, Ollie Watkins, Ivan Toney, Jarrel Quansah, Trevoh Chalobah and Dean Henderson, who didn't feature against Croatia. England boss Thomas Tuchel said: "We can give some of those who have not played so many minutes tomorrow some actual match load (in the friendly)."
