The 2026 Formula 1 season has been filled with drama, and the recent Barcelona Grand Prix at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was no exception. Lewis Hamilton crossed the line in first place, securing his maiden win as a Ferrari driver and completing a British one-two-three finish.
Hamilton's Landmark Win
Hamilton now sits second in the drivers' standings following his victory, while Kimi Antonelli remains out in front. Lando Norris, the reigning champion, is down in fifth despite his podium finish over the weekend.
As has happened multiple times this season, changes were made to the race result after the event. These alterations could have an impact on the final standings, though the full extent will not be known until later in the year.
Barcelona GP Result Changes
Lewis Hamilton was investigated for a potential breach of yellow flag rules at the Barcelona Grand Prix. The 41-year-old was ultimately cleared, but fellow driver Franco Colapinto was not as fortunate after falling foul of the same regulations.
Colapinto originally finished eighth on the track, but this changed with his penalty. His final classification of 10th means he takes home one point instead of the four he would have originally received.
"The driver of Car 43 [Colapinto] slightly reduced speed before entering the single yellow flag zone, but did not discernibly reduce speed in the relevant yellow flag sector," stewards explained. "The stewards acknowledge that the driver reacted to the yellow flag but do not consider the reaction to be sufficient to comply with the regulations. Therefore, a penalty on the lower end of the applicable scale of penalties is imposed."
Hamilton Opens Up on Ferrari 'Shock'
Lewis Hamilton has spoken about the shock his arrival caused within the Ferrari system. It has taken over a year, but he finally has his first win for the famous team and sits second in the drivers' standings, while teammate Charles Leclerc is fourth.
"Me coming was a big shock to the system because I am very, very vocal," Hamilton said of his impact on the Scuderia. "If I see something that I don't think is right, or I push very, very hard, that's at the core of who I am, and I'm relentless with it. And I think it's not easy to be on the receiving end of that when you're also juggling a whole organisation, you know, and a culture that in its own is set in a certain way."
Team principal Frederic Vasseur declined to take credit for Hamilton's improved results this season. "It's more Lewis himself," he said. "He was able to come back after a tough moment of weekends. He was able to come back and do a full reset. To continue to push, to continue to come at the factory on Tuesday morning. This commitment is a huge support. Coming from a world champion, it's even more, I would say. It was also a huge motivation for everybody at the factory."
