Trent Alexander-Arnold has been tipped to make a controversial switch to Arsenal, according to former England striker Teddy Sheringham. The 27-year-old left Liverpool for Real Madrid last year but has struggled with injuries and form, failing to displace Dani Carvajal and missing out on the World Cup squad. With Real Madrid set to sign Denzel Dumfries, Alexander-Arnold's future at the Bernabeu looks uncertain.
Arsenal's Need for a Right-Back
Arsenal, meanwhile, could be in the market for a right-back after Ben White and Jurrien Timber battled injuries last season. Centre-back Cristhian Mosquera often filled in for Mikel Arteta's Premier League champions. Sheringham believes Alexander-Arnold could thrive in an organised Arsenal defence.
"Liverpool fans might not want him back, so it does narrow down where he could go," Sheringham told BOYLE Sports. "He doesn't immediately strike me as an Arsenal player, but they could make it work for him. If you put Trent in an organised, structured back four, he could give Arsenal that extra dimension."
Alexander-Arnold's Liverpool Legacy
At Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, the FA Cup, two League Cups, and the UEFA Super Cup. However, his first season at Real Madrid was trophyless. He has since vowed to improve, posting on Instagram: "I will take a good break and put the work in over the summer. I promise we will bring trophies back to this amazing club next season!"
With Jose Mourinho set to become his third coach at Real Madrid, Alexander-Arnold's future remains uncertain. A move to Arsenal could reignite his career, but Liverpool fans would likely view it as a betrayal.
