Manchester United's £16m Payout to Sack Ruben Amorim Set to Be Slashed

Manchester United's compensation payments to Ruben Amorim will be reduced if he is appointed by AC Milan, who are in advanced talks with the Portuguese manager. Amorim was sacked by United in January after 14 months in charge, triggering a £15.9 million payout to cover his departure and that of his coaching staff.

However, that figure is expected to be slashed should Amorim take over at the San Siro. Milan are considering the former Sporting Lisbon boss after sacking Massimiliano Allegri last month following a fifth-place finish in Serie A, which the club described as an 'unequivocal failure.'

Amorim was dismissed by United amid rising tensions with the board, having overseen the club's worst season in 51 years. His Premier League record was the worst of any United manager in history, with a win ratio of 32 per cent, 1.53 goals conceded per game, and a clean sheet rate of just 15 per cent.

Despite this, United CEO Omar Berrada praised Amorim, stating he 'helped raise standards in the dressing room' and predicted he would 'go on to be a successful coach.' A pre-season friendly between United and Milan is scheduled for August 15 in Poland, which could see Amorim face his former club.
