Manchester United are closing in on a shock deal to sign Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa as they step up plans to overhaul their midfield. The two clubs are in advanced talks over an agreement for the 29-year-old, who has made it clear he wants to move to Old Trafford. His Villa contract has two years remaining.
Tielemans' World Cup Form and Premier League Experience
Tielemans thrived for Belgium at the World Cup and is determined to make the move to United after learning of their interest. He has Premier League experience with Leicester City and Villa, and captained his country this summer, only to be forced to pull out of their quarter-final defeat to Spain with a minor injury.
Fit for United's Transfer Strategy
United's move comes as something of a surprise, but he fits the bill for their current transfer structure, given his background in the Premier League, and he adds quality and experience to the club's midfield. Tielemans looks set to follow Andrey Santos through the door at Old Trafford. United have agreed a £50million package with Chelsea for the 22-year-old Brazilian, who is in line to complete his move on Monday.
Potential Third Midfield Signing
United remain in the market for a third midfield signing this summer and that could yet be Ederson. They agreed a £35million deal, with £3.8million in add-ons, last month, but have paused plans to complete the signing after a medical raised concerns over a knee injury. Despite that, United haven't ruled out going ahead with that signing but would look to renegotiate the deal agreed with Atalanta before doing so. Ederson is out of contract next summer, although Atalanta are now keen to tie him down to a new long-term deal.
