Spurs Confirm Shirt Numbers for New Signings; Gallagher Takes No8

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that shirt numbers for their summer signings will be finalised before the Premier League season opener, with Conor Gallagher already switching to the No8 jersey. The club has completed three defensive signings so far: Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Jan Paul van Hecke, but only Senesi's number has been officially announced.

Shirt Numbers Announced and Pending

Marcos Senesi, who joined on a free transfer from Bournemouth, will wear the No5 shirt, previously held by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the 2023-24 season. Conor Gallagher, meanwhile, has moved from No22 to No8 after Yves Bissouma's summer exit. Gallagher expressed his excitement, stating: “It’s an honour to wear the number eight shirt. I’ve never actually worn it at club level in my career, so I’m excited – it’s always been my favourite number. Some of my favourite footballers growing up also wore eight, so I’m looking forward to pulling on the jersey for this fantastic club.”

Robertson and van Hecke Numbers Unclear

Andy Robertson, who wore No26 at Liverpool for nine years, cannot take that number at Spurs as it has been ‘quietly retired’ since Ledley King stopped playing in 2012. Jan Paul van Hecke, who moved from Brighton for £52 million, wore No6 in his final season at Brighton, but that number is currently taken by Joao Palhinha, whose future at the club is undecided. Tottenham have stated that squad numbers for all senior players remain subject to change, except for Senesi and Gallagher, with the final list to be submitted to the Premier League before the opening weekend of the 2026/27 season.
