Carrick Targets Holding Midfielder
Michael Carrick is said to want a holding midfielder to succeed Casemiro, who left Old Trafford at the end of last season. Several candidates have been linked, including Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga. According to The Guardian, Camavinga is near the top of Carrick's shortlist and could be available for around £51 million this summer.
Real Madrid would be open to letting Camavinga leave for the right price, suggesting a move to Old Trafford could become a real possibility.
Rodri Interest Could Be Decisive
The report adds that Real Madrid's interest in Rodri could be a deciding factor. The Spanish giants are reportedly exploring a blockbuster move for the Manchester City midfielder, who recently helped Spain win the World Cup for a second time. Personal terms have already been agreed, according to RMC Sport, but a transfer fee is yet to be negotiated. Rodri is only contracted to City until the end of next season, putting pressure on them to cash in.
The one-time Ballon d'Or winner has made no secret of his desire to return to Spain one day and is believed to be keen on joining Real Madrid this summer. If they manage to sign Rodri, it would reportedly free up Camavinga to leave. United, therefore, will be quietly hoping that a deal can be struck between the Spanish giants and their cross-city rivals.
Camavinga's Preference
Camavinga is believed to favour staying at Real Madrid, but he would be pushed down the pecking order if Rodri is snapped up. It remains to be seen if his stance would change should United come calling. His teammate Aurelien Tchouameni has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but he is now expected to sign a new contract in the Spanish capital until the summer of 2031, increasing his asking price. Camavinga seems the most likely option for United, with just over five weeks left in the transfer window.
