The Ospreys are closing in on the signing of former Wallabies wing Marika Koroibete, WalesOnline can reveal.
Strengthening the squad
Mark Jones has been working hard to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2026/27 season and wants to add some power to his back three.
While the deal has not yet been completed, if the Ospreys succeed in getting Koroibete over the line this would be a significant statement of intent by the Welsh club, reminiscent of their 'Galacticos' era when they attracted players like Jerry Collins and Marty Holah.
Koroibete's career
Koroibete may be approaching the end of his playing career at 34 but the powerful wing is still capable of making a significant impact on the United Rugby Championship.
The Fijian-born wing began his career in the NRL with the Wests Tigers and Melbourne Storm before leaving league for union.
In the 15-man code he has represented the Melbourne Rebels and most recently played for the wealthy Japanese outfit Panasonic Wild Knights. Koroibete has also enjoyed a stint playing sevens in India for Chennai Bulls.
Koroibete was a Wallabies regular for many years and scored an impressive 20 tries on the international stage in 63 caps.
Ospreys' recruitment drive
The Ospreys have recruited strongly this summer despite the off-field chaos that has engulfed Welsh rugby over the past 18 months, responding well to the loss of Wales stars Jac Morgan and Dewi Lake to Gloucester.
If Koroibete completes a deal with the Welsh club he will become the third Australia international at the Ospreys, with backrower Liam Wright and centre Lalakai Foketi having signed ahead of the new season.
They have also signed utility-back Lawson Creighton from the Waratahs, while former Queensland Reds second-row Ryan Smith is also at the club.
In addition to these signings the Ospreys have brought Wales wing Tom Rogers on board from the Scarlets, Dan John from Exeter Chiefs and outside-half Harri Wilde on loan from Cardiff.
