Darwin Nunez has singled out Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah as he faces an uncertain future at Al-Hilal. The former Liverpool striker, who joined the Saudi Pro League side last summer, has been linked with a move away after being left out of the squad.
Nunez's Praise for Former Teammates
In a video that emerged on X, Nunez was asked by a fan for his thoughts on Liverpool. He said: "For me the best player at the back is Van Dijk." When it was put to him that he was the king of Liverpool, he replied: "Mo Salah."
The 27-year-old scored 40 goals during a three-year spell with the Reds. He was sold to Al-Hilal in a deal worth nearly £80m including add-ons, helping Liverpool fund a record £455m spending spree on players like Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, and Hugo Ekitike.
Al-Hilal Transfer Situation
Nunez has scored nine goals in 24 appearances for Al-Hilal. However, he looks set to leave this summer after being dropped from the roster when the club signed Karim Benzema, as Saudi clubs can only register eight foreign players.
Spanish publication Sport reports that Nunez has been made available for loan, with Barcelona linked. However, no formal negotiations have taken place between Barca and the Saudi club.
Interest from MLS and Turkey
The Athletic has previously claimed that talks with Major League Soccer side Atlanta have begun but are not yet advanced. The MLS club reportedly has the financial power for such a deal, but does not currently have an open designated-player roster spot. That could change as an exit is reportedly nearing for club-record signing Emmanuel Latte Lath.
Four Turkish Super Lig teams - Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Besiktas, and Trabzonspor - are also reportedly interested in a potential deal.
