Manchester United are set to be busy sending academy players out on loan in the final two weeks of the transfer window, and will consider permanent offers for most. A large cohort of young players is expected to leave the club before the September 1 deadline.
Midfielders attracting interest
Toby Collyer has waited for the green light to leave this summer while United settle on their first-team midfield options. Collyer has attracted both loan and permanent interest from the Championship. The 22-year-old has a year left on his contract, with the option of a 12-month extension, and United are open to permanent offers.
Dan Gore finds himself in a similar situation. He spent last season on loan with Rotherham, making 44 appearances, so he has outgrown academy football and will leave United before the transfer deadline. Gore signed a new contract before leaving for Rotherham, which expires in the summer of 2028, but the club didn't announce it.
Strikers and midfielders set for loan moves
Chido Obi is expected to leave on loan. The young striker attracted interest from German club FC Koln at the start of the transfer window, and United see the merit in sending him on loan to a European side this season. Obi made seven senior appearances in 2024/25, but Ruben Amorim said he was exposed to first-team football too soon due to injuries in the squad. Although the youngster improved in academy games last term, he was only included in a Premier League matchday squad for two games.
Jacob Devaney has been earmarked for another loan. The midfielder has attracted interest from Championship clubs and sides across Europe, and he is set to decide which club is the right move for him. Devaney's stock soared in the second half of last season thanks to his loan with St Mirren. He started every game except two during his time in the Scottish top-flight.
Other departures and clauses
Jack Moorhouse and Ethan Wheatley are expected to leave on loan, while permanent offers will be considered for Habeeb Ogunneye, Louis Jackson and Gabriele Biancheri. However, loans will be arranged for the trio if permanent exits are not possible.
United have continued to insist on inserting favourable clauses into the sales of academy players this summer. United inserted a “high percentage” sell-on clause and buyback option into the sale of Tyler Fredricson, while similar clauses were inserted into the sale of Radek Vitek to Middlesbrough. The Reds also cashed in on Ethan Williams, who joined Peterborough last week. United inserted a 50 per cent sell-on clause, a buyback option and matching rights clauses.
