England international Marc Guehi has completed a major transfer to Manchester City, leaving Crystal Palace in a deal that could be worth up to £30 million.
A Dream Move to the Etihad
The 25-year-old centre-back finalised the switch on Sunday, 19th January 2026, after flying into Manchester on a private jet to undergo a medical. Guehi has committed his future to the Premier League champions by signing a lucrative contract, reported to be worth £200,000 per week, which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031.
In his first comments as a City player, Guehi made it clear that the opportunity to work under Pep Guardiola and compete for the biggest honours was the driving force behind his decision. He revealed he turned down interest from several other clubs to secure this move.
"I am really happy and incredibly proud to be a Manchester City player," said Guehi. "This move feels like the culmination of all the hard work I have put into my career. I am now at the best club in England and part of an unbelievable squad of players."
City Secure a 'Huge Talent'
Manchester City's Director of Football, Hugo Viana, expressed his delight at securing the services of a defender he rates among the best in the country. Viana highlighted Guehi's leadership qualities and his potential for further growth.
"It's clear Marc has been one of the best defenders in English football for quite some time now," Viana stated. "He is strong, has exceptional defensive qualities, is an intelligent reader of the game, and brings passion and energy every time he steps onto the pitch. Marc is entering the prime years of his career."
Palace Farewell and Immediate Impact
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish acknowledged the difficulty of losing a player of Guehi's calibre but respected his ambition. "There is never an easy time to bid farewell to a player of Marc's calibre and character, but we respect his desire to play football at the highest level," Parish said.
On the pitch, Guehi is ineligible for City's Champions League tie against Bodo/Glimt. However, fans can expect to see him make his debut very soon, with a potential first appearance coming in the Premier League clash against Wolves this weekend.
The defender, who has 26 England caps, is also expected to be a key part of manager Thomas Tuchel's plans for the upcoming World Cup in the summer, adding further significance to his high-profile club move.
