Manchester United are poised to swiftly reject an 'audacious' bid from Galatasaray for captain Bruno Fernandes, according to reports. The 31-year-old is heading into the final 12 months of the three-year contract he signed in 2024, though United hold an option to extend it by an additional season.
Release Clause and Interest
Fernandes's contract contains a £56million release clause that can be activated by clubs outside England. It's not the first occasion the Portuguese has been connected with an exit from Old Trafford, and the club has previously had to battle to retain him.
Fernandes is viewed as a dream signing for Galatasaray, and the Istanbul outfit haven't shied away from spending heavily in recent windows, securing the likes of Victor Osimhen and Leroy Sane. According to The Independent, United are prepared to dismiss what has been characterised as an 'audacious approach' from Galatasaray.
United's Firm Stance
The Turkish side were readying a significant financial offer for the midfielder. However, United's position remains firm - Fernandes is not for sale. With the summer window heading into its final weeks and the Premier League season starting on Friday, the Portugal international will not be allowed to leave.
Fernandes remains a pivotal figure for Michael Carrick and is poised to feature prominently in United's Champions League campaign. While there are presently no plans to offer Fernandes a fresh contract ahead of the forthcoming season, that position could change once the campaign gets underway.
Fernandes's Commitment
Fernandes, though, suggested he would remain with United beyond the summer. "Playing for Manchester United is always a special moment for everyone. At the same time, it brings a lot of responsibility with it," he said last month.
"But I don't think anyone comes to Manchester United thinking that we won't have the responsibility to win again, to be at the top of the Premier League, at the top of European football, because the club's history brings that responsibility.
"Regardless of the most recent years, they were not at the level that the club was used to. I think everyone always believes that we can be the ones who are going to do this, the ones who are going to turn the page, the ones who are going to make it possible for United to fight on all fronts.
"And I think that has to be special for us players, to realise that we can be the main, let's say, protagonists of this change of history for United to win again."
Looking Ahead
United finished third in the Premier League last season, their best finish since 2022/23, and Carrick will aim to build on that progress going into 2026/27, a campaign that signals their return to the Champions League for the first time since 2024. Their campaign will kick off away to new boys Hull City this Saturday afternoon (August 22).
