Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly this summer, with the Gunners looking to sell him before next month's deadline.
Lewis-Skelly has been a valuable player for the newly-crowned Premier League champions in recent years, but looks set to be knocked down the pecking order following the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes. He only signed a new contract at the Emirates Stadium last year, but is already being touted for an exit.
Arsenal offer to United and Chelsea
Arsenal have offered his services to United, who were linked with a potential move for his signature back in January, as well as Chelsea. The west Londoners have admired the versatile 19-year-old for some time, according to football.london, but it remains to be seen if they are still interested in a move.
Lewis-Skelly featured 36 times for Arsenal across all competitions last season, but only made 19 starts in total. There is a feeling that should Arsenal receive an attractive proposal from United or Chelsea, they would struggle to turn it down.
Pre-season role and performances
Lewis-Skelly has started every pre-season fixture as a defensive midfielder with Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino and Guimaraes unavailable. His displays have been inconsistent, despite producing impressive performances towards the end of last season which earned him a starting berth in the Champions League final.
Chelsea have already signed 10 players this summer for slightly over £270m and could still do more business before the window slams shut. United, meanwhile, have splashed a combined £85m on the signings of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. They have also recruited goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer.
Versatility and left-back need
Lewis-Skelly is primarily a central midfielder but also offers versatility on the left side of defence. This would make him an attractive proposition for United, who are thought to be in the market for a new left-back.
Luke Shaw is their only senior option, with Patrick Dorgu playing further forward under Michael Carrick and Tyrell Malacia no longer at the club. United have been linked with a potential move for Lewis Hall, but it's claimed that Newcastle are unwilling to sell him after losing a number of key players this summer.
