Stylist: 3 steps to fix wrong bra fitting for 80% of women

Stylist Kenzie, who runs the account @stylingwithkenzie, says that 80% of women are wearing bras incorrectly. In a TikTok video, she shared a series of fitting tips that she says have "changed [her] life," drawing on training from her first job after college at a luxury lingerie company.

Check the bra band first

Kenzie said: "Number one – the fit of a bra band is the most important. The fit of the band should be parallel around the small of your back, and you shouldn't be able to pull it out more than two inches."

She added that many women get the band sizing wrong because they worry about a snug fit, but bras stretch over time. She advises trying on a new bra with the loosest hook rather than the tightest.

Measure cup size correctly

Kenzie explained that cup size is influenced by band size: "For every band size that you go down, you should be going up in cup size." A cup that is too small can cause breast tissue to spill from the top or sides, while a cup that is too big may sag, pucker, or have gaps.

She also noted that straps are not meant for support: "It's your cups and your band that are providing the support in your bra."

Consider the cup shape

Cup shape matters because it determines how volume is distributed and supported. Kenzie said: "There are over 25 different bra styles, and most popular stores only carry five, which means you might be wearing a T-shirt bra right now."

By wearing the correct shape, she says, you will look more lifted and smooth, and feel more comfortable and supported.
