Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Myles Lewis-Skelly as they continue their search for a left-back during the summer transfer window. Arsenal are considering selling the 19-year-old academy graduate, and Chelsea have also been informed that he could be available in the final weeks of the window.
United's interest and Lewis-Skelly's rise
United showed interest in the teenager towards the end of last season, but a move looked difficult when Lewis-Skelly emerged to start five of the final six games for Mikel Arteta's side. Having started once in the Premier League before that, he played in midfield and featured for all 120 minutes of the Champions League final against Paris St-Germain.
However, Arsenal's £75million move for Bruno Guimaraes has pushed him down the pecking order. The club could now sell Lewis-Skelly to recoup some of that outlay, while Ricardo Califori and Piero Hincapie are ahead of him at left-back.
United's left-back options and midfield plans
United have been looking at options in that position after failing to sign Lewis Hall from Newcastle. With Guimaraes following Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali out of St James' Park, the Magpies are reluctant to sell another star player.
Lewis-Skelly fits the profile of left-back United have targeted, being young enough to challenge and eventually succeed Luke Shaw, who is in the final year of his contract. His Premier League experience is also valued, and he could provide extra cover in midfield. United are considering a third signing in that area after spending £85million combined on Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
