Lewis Hall was prominently featured in Newcastle's new away kit launch last week, with the press release calling him a "boyhood Magpies fan." While some took this as a sign he is staying, past examples show players have been used in promotional material before leaving.
However, Manchester United's chances of signing the defender appear even slimmer than they were in May. Newcastle sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £70m and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham for £100m earlier in the window, strengthening their finances by £170m. Club officials have privately stressed that Newcastle no longer need to sell, though a lucrative offer could still be considered.
Newcastle's Stance on Hall
Newcastle have already lost two key players, and it would be damaging if Bruno Guimaraes or Hall were to leave. The club insists neither is for sale. Hall was signed from Chelsea for £35m and is contracted until 2029, making a £50m bid unrealistic. United have signed two midfielders and could stretch to a £70m bid for Hall, but it would stretch the budget.
The most likely scenario is that United will revisit their interest next summer when Hall has two years remaining on his deal. If Newcastle struggle after losing players, Hall might push for a move.
United's Left-Back Options
Luke Shaw started every Premier League game last season and showed durability, but his body cannot handle two games per week. Patrick Dorgu and Harry Amass are options, with Dorgu improving when moved to the wing. Reintegrating Rashford could also strengthen the left wing.
United may need to play the long game if they want to sign Hall.
