Man Utd Close to First Summer Transfer with World Cup Medical

Manchester United are on the verge of completing their first summer transfer, with Brazilian midfielder Ederson set to undergo a medical while on international duty at the World Cup. The Red Devils have reached an agreement with Atalanta for the 25-year-old, who will cost a fixed fee of £34.9 million plus up to £3.8 million in potential bonuses.

Ederson's Move to Old Trafford Nears Completion

Ederson has agreed a four-year contract with Manchester United, which includes an option for an additional 12 months. The deal has been complicated by the World Cup, as the Brazilian was called up to the national squad following an injury to another player. However, according to Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport, the midfielder is scheduled to undergo his medical in New York this Sunday.

United have prioritised strengthening their midfield this summer, following an impressive 2026 campaign under manager Michael Carrick that saw them return to the Champions League. The club recently saw Casemiro depart after his contract expired and are open to offers for Manuel Ugarte. They are prepared to spend significantly to land two new midfielders, with Ederson expected to be complemented by a player already in the Premier League.

Additional Transfer Targets

Manchester United have been linked with several other midfielders, including Sandro Tonali, Carlos Baleba, and Adam Wharton. They also have an interest in Elliot Anderson, though the player reportedly prefers a move to local rivals Manchester City. Beyond midfield, United are keen to sign a left-back, a left-winger, and possibly a striker.

England manager Thomas Tuchel has stated he would not obstruct any transfer business for players currently in the England camp, provided it is handled discreetly and efficiently. “If it is quietly done, privately done, done efficiently, we are always happy to help to have clarity around the player,” Tuchel said. “I think the best we can have is clarity. If anyone has the chance to complete a change of club and a transfer, we will not stand in the way.”
