Manchester United and Arsenal Plot Summer Move for Christian Pulisic

While the January transfer window has only recently closed, Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal are already laying the groundwork for their summer recruitment plans. According to reports from Italy, both clubs are showing significant interest in bringing former Chelsea star Christian Pulisic back to English football.

Pulisic's Impressive Form in Serie A

The American international winger has enjoyed a remarkable resurgence since joining AC Milan from Chelsea, establishing himself as a key player for the Italian side. Pulisic has demonstrated consistent goal-scoring ability across multiple seasons, netting 10 goals in all competitions during the current campaign following previous seasons where he reached 15 and 16 goals respectively.

This sustained excellence in Serie A has not gone unnoticed by Premier League scouts, with Manchester United, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur all reportedly monitoring the 27-year-old's situation closely. Italian publication CalcioMercato suggests that interested clubs could potentially exploit Pulisic's contractual circumstances, as his current deal with AC Milan expires in 2027.

The Potential Transfer Fee and Chelsea History

Sources indicate that an offer in the region of €55 million, equivalent to approximately £48 million, might be sufficient to persuade AC Milan to part with their prized asset. This represents a significant financial turnaround for Pulisic, who originally moved to Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 for £57 million.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, the American forward struggled to maintain consistent form, managing just 26 goals across 145 appearances in all competitions. Chelsea eventually sold him to AC Milan for around £20 million, making the potential £48 million return a substantial profit for the Italian club.

MLS Speculation and International Considerations

While there has been speculation about Pulisic potentially moving to Major League Soccer in the future, former Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel has advised against such a switch during the peak years of his career. Speaking to Goal, Friedel emphasized the importance of American national team players competing at the highest possible level.

"In the future, yes," Friedel commented regarding a potential MLS move. "Just from a U.S. fan standpoint, I want as many of the best players for the national team playing at the highest level of competition they can, because that will make sure that the national team competes stronger against the world's elite."

The former goalkeeper expressed concerns that established stars like Pulisic might not face sufficient competition in MLS to continue developing their game. "I like it when players don't know when their next contract is coming, they always have the next young player pushing to take their spot, they have to always get better," he added.

World Cup Expectations and Career Trajectory

Pulisic is expected to play a central role for the United States national team in the upcoming World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico. With 82 international caps and 32 goals since his debut in 2016, the winger remains a crucial figure for his country.

Friedel concluded by suggesting that while he would eventually love to see Pulisic and other American stars finish their careers in MLS, the league might not yet be ready to accommodate players at the absolute peak of their abilities. "Eventually I would love to see Christian and Weston and Tyler [Adams] come back and all these guys finish their careers in MLS. That would be great. But in the peak of their career, I don't think MLS is there yet," he stated.

The potential return of Christian Pulisic to the Premier League represents one of the most intriguing transfer stories developing ahead of the summer window, with Manchester United and Arsenal appearing as the frontrunners for his signature.
