Liverpool Block Joe Gomez Loan as Part of Marc Guehi Deal

Liverpool have ruled out allowing defender Joe Gomez to join Crystal Palace on loan as part of any deal for Marc Guehi. The Reds are keen on signing the England centre-half but insist their own player is going nowhere, even temporarily.

Palace had hoped to include Gomez in a package worth around £30 million for Guehi, who has refused to sign a new contract at Selhurst Park. However, Liverpool manager Arne Slot values Gomez's versatility and does not want to weaken his defensive options.

The Reds have conceded four goals in their first two Premier League matches, prompting criticism from former defender Jamie Carragher. He wrote in the Telegraph that Liverpool's defence consists of "Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk and nothing much else".

Palace boss Oliver Glasner has stated he wants to keep Guehi, but the club may be forced to sell if they can bring in two centre-backs. Toulouse’s Jaydee Canvot is a primary target, with talks at an advanced stage, while Manuel Akanji and Ousmane Diomande are also under consideration.
