Liverpool are reportedly preparing a £78m move for Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, according to sources. The Dutch international has established himself as one of the Premier League's best centre-backs since his £43m transfer from Wolfsburg in 2023. With Spurs languishing in 14th place, their struggles could open the door for a potential departure.
The Reds missed out on Marc Guehi, who joined Manchester City on Monday, and are now said to be turning their attention to Van de Ven. Former Chelsea and Tottenham star Jason Cundy urged Liverpool to pursue the 24-year-old, telling talkSPORT: 'If I'm Liverpool I'm going after Van de Ven. He's perfect for Liverpool if they want to play a high line.'
Meanwhile, Dominik Szoboszlai has confirmed that contract talks are underway with Liverpool. The Hungary captain, who signed a five-year deal in 2023 for £60m, said: 'Of course, but there are always talks. No decision has been made. I am happy here but you know how football works.' The midfielder has been a standout performer in a disappointing title defence.
The news comes after Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley at Anfield, their fourth consecutive draw in the league. Despite a 12-match unbeaten run in all competitions, fans voiced their displeasure at full-time, with boos ringing round the stadium.
