Jack Lowden has become the new favourite to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond, with bookmakers slashing his odds after showbiz insider Richard Osman revealed he is being strongly considered for the role.
Osman's revelation
On the latest episode of The Rest is Entertainment, Osman said: “The name I've heard is Jack Lowden. It is definitively not a 'he's definitely got it' thing. He is definitely being strongly considered. I think he'd be amazing.”
Lowden, known for Slow Horses and Pride and Prejudice, is 36 years old — around the same age Daniel Craig was when he was cast as Bond.
Odds crash
William Hill reported: “There’s a new favourite to take up the role of James Bond next, and it's Jack Lowden. We’ve seen multiple accounts opened to back the Scottish actor to become the next 007 - in fact, every bet we’ve laid today barring one has been on Lowden, seeing his odds crash from 6/1 into 5/4 favouritism. Callum Turner has now drifted to 7/4 second-favourite, with Henry Cavill next at 9/4 whilst Aaron Taylor Johnson is 6/1.”
Rumours suggest the next round of Bond auditions are taking place this month, with producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, director Denis Villeneuve and screenwriter Steven Knight screen-testing actors for the coveted role.
