Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua will reportedly take place on Friday, November 20, according to The Sun. The long-awaited mega-fight between the British rivals is closer than ever following largely positive talks between the rival camps.
Venue remains the sticking point
The main issue to iron out is the venue. Wembley was the initial frontrunner until an issue over the start time emerged. Madison Square Garden in New York is now the favourite, with Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh believing the United States better serves a wider global audience. However, Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, are pushing back against the fight being held outside the UK.
Netflix, which would show the fight, have earmarked November 20. Meanwhile, Hearn has confirmed a press conference will go ahead later this month.
Hearn pushes for UK fight
The Matchroom Boxing boss told Sky Sports: "At the end of August, there will be a press conference. I'm not going to sit here and tell you there's no way the fight’s happening in America because things can change. But I really feel strongly that this is something that should happen in the UK and we'll do all we can.
"We're up against it. It seems like everybody else has agreed but Anthony Joshua. He feels a little bit of responsibility to UK fight fans as well. And he's doing everything he can to give them what they want." Hearn has said they would not have signed the contract if the fight was in America and there has to be a "discussion around that."
Warren insists fight will happen
Responding to those comments, Fury's promoter, Frank Warren, told Box Nation: "Tyson Fury has his agreement, which states something different. The fight will happen."
"I've heard what Eddie has said. They're either going to agree to it or not. If they don't agree to it, then the fight won't happen. But the fight, I understand, will be November, and the venue will be announced in due course."
