Manchester City have confirmed their first player departure since being found guilty of 114 of the 115 financial misconduct charges brought by the Premier League last week. City have since confirmed they have lodged an appeal against the verdict.
Cardiff City have announced the signing of 17-year-old Charlie Holt from City, with the teenager initially going into the Championship outfit's Under-21s squad. Holt had penned a scholarship agreement with City in the summer of 2025 and went on to represent the club's Under-18s throughout last season, making 12 appearances as the side clinched the Premier League North title.
Cardiff confirm midfielder's arrival
Cardiff have confirmed that Holt, who they described as "an energetic midfielder capable of impacting both boxes", will join their Under-21s setup rather than immediately entering their first-team squad.
The teenager has outlined the reasons he made the switch from Manchester to Cardiff, saying: "I'm very pleased to be here. It's a great opportunity and a different challenge for me."
"It's a brilliant environment to be in and I can't wait to get started. I'd say I'm an energetic player with technical ability on the ball. Hopefully, I can chip in with a few goals as well," Holt said in an interview with Cardiff's club website.
City protest innocence amid sanctions talk
City, meanwhile, continue to protest their innocence over their Premier League charges, claiming to possess a "comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence" that should exonerate them of any wrongdoing.
Various potential sanctions have been mooted in the days following the verdict, ranging from points deductions and financial penalties to the stripping of past titles and expulsion from the Premier League.
The appeal is expected to be heard before the end of the year, with an independent three-person panel anticipated to deliver a ruling in the coming months.
