Bologna chiefs are reportedly set to meet with Lewis Ferguson to discuss his future at the club amid ongoing interest from Rangers. The Scotland international has returned from the World Cup as he seeks regular game time under new manager Domenico Tedesco.
Ferguson's Bologna Struggles
Ferguson endured a difficult campaign last season under Vincenzo Italiano after recovering from a cruciate ligament injury. Despite this, new boss Tedesco is said to view the 28-year-old as a key figure for the upcoming season. His father Derek and uncle Barry both played for Rangers, and Ferguson had previously expressed a desire to follow their footsteps when he left Aberdeen in 2022, but no approach materialised at the time.
Rangers' Pursuit
Rangers have now approached the Italian side over a potential deal. A player-plus-cash arrangement has been floated, with Bologna reportedly interested in Connor Barron as part of a £17 million package. Nico Raskin has also been touted as a possible swap element. Meanwhile, Derek McInnes is keen to add a playmaker after an approach for Tromso's Jens Hjerto-Dahl fell through.
Sporting director Marco Di Vaio previously stated: "We agreed with Lewis that we'll talk after the World Cup because the boy might want to explore possible offers." According to Il Resto del Carlino, a summit between the player and club officials will take place in the coming days to assess Ferguson's interest in a new challenge. Real Betis and Atalanta have also been linked with the midfielder.
Nico Raskin Situation
Amid the transfer activity, Nico Raskin is set to return to Glasgow. The Rangers midfielder impressed for Belgium during their World Cup quarter-final run and is attracting interest from across Europe. Italian sources indicate Roma, Atalanta, and Bologna are keen on signing Raskin, while reports claim Rangers rejected a £14 million offer from Hull City. Real Betis are prepared to firm up their interest, with Villarreal also on alert.
Raskin is expected to arrive in Glasgow on Thursday following an extended break after the World Cup. Rangers begin their Premiership campaign against Dundee United on Friday.
