Ferdinand urges Man United to sign Lewis-Skelly for £70m

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has told the club to jump at the chance to sign Myles Lewis-Skelly from Arsenal this summer. United are on the lookout for a left-back to provide competition to Luke Shaw.

United offered Lewis-Skelly

Reports suggest that United, along with Chelsea, have been offered Lewis-Skelly, who can play either at left-back or in midfield, another area United would like to strengthen further. The 19-year-old has started all of Arsenal's pre-season games so far in a defensive midfield role.

While it's not reported what sort of price Arsenal would be looking for for the teenager if they are to sell, football.london reports that the Gunners could be tempted into selling following the £75 million arrival of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle. Lewis-Skelly struggled for regular game time for the majority of last season, with the arrival only increasing competition.

Ferdinand: 'Press the green button'

The possible availability of the England U21 international is an opportunity that United shouldn't turn down, according to Ferdinand. He claims that the club should pay up to £70 million for the youngster.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: "If I'm Manchester United right now I say press the green button and buy him, take him, right now.

"What a player, a top player. He was a massive part of the team when he was brought in towards the end of the season. He contributed to Arsenal winning the league, he was brilliant and came in and produced.

"If he's on the market and he's a good price you have to take him. The good price I'm saying is £60m or £70m.

"If that's the case, get the chequebook out, slap it down and sign him. No questions asked, I would take him.

"He's young, a huge talent, can play in two positions and I think mentally he's made of the right stuff."

Lewis-Skelly's rise at Arsenal

Lewis-Skelly came up through the youth teams at the Emirates Stadium. He made his breakthrough into the first team in the 2024/25 season, and has made 75 first team appearances for Arsenal, scoring one goal and providing six assists.
