Cammy Devlin has expressed his excitement at reuniting with Lawrence Shankland at Rangers, revealing the striker's long-held desire to play for his boyhood club. Devlin, 28, became Rangers' sixth summer signing, joining on a free transfer from Hearts and penning a two-year deal at Ibrox.
Devlin Joins McInnes and Shankland at Ibrox
The Australia World Cup star has been quickly reunited with manager Derek McInnes and Scotland international Shankland. The trio were instrumental in driving Hearts to the brink of a shock Premiership title triumph last season, ultimately falling short against champions Celtic. Shankland had already moved to Rangers before McInnes and Devlin's arrival in Govan.
Speaking to Rangers TV, Devlin said: "Shanks had been linked with Rangers every single window since I've been here (in Scotland). It's been a long time coming for him and I know he's excited. We are really close with his whole family and he is so happy. I have obviously spoken to him about all of this and everything that comes with it."
Devlin Credits McInnes for Career Development
Devlin also praised McInnes for elevating his performance level. He added: "He was a massive part of why we (Hearts) were successful (last season). I feel like I had a good season and he was a massive driver behind that. He gave me confidence and a sense of freedom to go out there and express myself. I really enjoyed my football so when he gave me the call to let me know that this was possible, it was something that I was excited about."
Devlin emphasized his ambition to succeed at Rangers alongside Shankland: "I am looking forward to sharing a changing room with him. We are really good mates and we share the same ambition. We are hungry people that want to be successful in our careers and we feel that there is no better place than to be at Rangers. I am really happy that we are able to do it together and I am looking forward to seeing him."
Devlin Confident in McInnes' Leadership
Devlin expressed confidence in McInnes' ability to lead Rangers, stating: "I feel like he is the right man at the right time to take over. It's a massive football club that he knows so well and just to be a part of that is amazing. I'm so excited and can't wait to get going."
