Cardiff City's Jesper Daland set to join Viking

Jesper Daland is reportedly on the brink of leaving Cardiff City this summer. According to Norwegian daily Stavanger Aftenblad, the centre-back is to join Viking in a deal that looks initially to be a loan move.

Daland's Cardiff Career

The 26-year-old centre-back joined Cardiff in the summer of 2024, and went on to make 20 appearances for the club in his first season. However, he was unable to prevent the Bluebirds from slipping into League One.

Daland didn't stay in the Welsh capital for last season's successful promotion push, and was instead shipped out to join 2. Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf, where he picked up 23 appearances. However, his stay in Dusseldorf also ended in relegation, and has since seen his future shrouded in uncertainty.

Out of First-Team Plans

The Norwegian certainly doesn't appear to be in Brian Barry-Murphy's first-team plans for this season. Indeed, he was one of three senior players, along with Roko Simic and Kion Etete, who were missing from Cardiff's pre-season plans. The trio have subsequently been training with the under-21s this summer, and it appears an exit for Daland has now been sanctioned.

It's claimed the defender is already on his way to the Norwegian side, and it's not yet known if there is any sort of obligation or option to buy.

Cardiff's Transfer Activity

Cardiff's transfer window is yet to really ignite ahead of the start of the new season, with a permanent deal for goalkeeper Nathan Trott so far the only piece of business confirmed. The club had looked to sign midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl, but he now looks set to complete a move to Premier League Hull City.

One deal that could well still happen, however, is the capture of Lincoln City's Jack Moylan. It's understood the Republic of Ireland international is poised to become the first outfield signing of the window, with reports elsewhere claiming a significant fee has already been agreed for the 24-year-old.
