Bruno Fernandes sets Man Utd future condition amid Spain and Italy ambition
Bruno Fernandes makes Man Utd transfer ultimatum

Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has issued a clear ultimatum over his future at the club, stating he will remain at Old Trafford only for as long as he feels truly wanted by the Red Devils.

Fernandes outlines future career ambitions

In a candid interview with Portuguese broadcaster Canal 11, the 30-year-old midfielder mapped out his long-term aspirations beyond the Premier League. He expressed a strong personal desire to experience playing in Spain's La Liga and to compete for major honours in Italy's Serie A.

"I would like to experience the Spanish league and fight for big titles in Italy," Fernandes revealed. "I have many connections to Italy… my daughter was born there."

A potential return to Portugal and rejecting Saudi interest

The Portuguese international also confirmed his thoughts have turned towards an eventual homecoming. He identified his former club, Sporting CP, as his first option for a return to Portuguese football, but stressed he would only go back if he could enhance the legacy he left, not diminish it.

"I've already thought about returning to Portugal… the first option would be Sporting. To be happy, like it was with Sporting," he said. "But I don’t want to ruin the image that was left. I want to add to it."

In a notable revelation, Fernandes confirmed he had rejected a lucrative move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal during the summer transfer window, choosing instead to continue his career in Manchester. This snub effectively ruled out a potential reunion with former United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.

The captain's commitment to United

Despite his openness about future leagues, Fernandes's immediate focus remains on Manchester United. His commitment, however, is conditional on the feeling of being valued at the club.

"I want to stay at Manchester United as long as I feel desired," Fernandes told Canal 11, setting a clear benchmark for his continued tenure as captain and key player.

The interview, conducted on 16 December 2025, provides a rare insight into the long-term planning of one of United's most influential figures. His comments will inevitably spark speculation about the club's need to demonstrate their commitment to him as they build for the future under manager Ruben Amorim.
