Arsenal's Ben White Could Force £50m Liverpool Transfer This Month
Ben White tipped for shock Liverpool move from Arsenal

Arsenal could face a major battle to keep hold of defender Ben White this month, with the £50 million star reportedly ready to force a shock transfer to Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Murphy's Verdict on a Potential Anfield Switch

According to former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy, the versatile England international would "jump at the chance" to join Jurgen Klopp's side if they made a formal approach. Murphy suggested that while Arsenal would be reluctant to sell to a direct competitor, the player's own determination could be the deciding factor in any deal.

White, who joined the Gunners from Brighton several years ago, has seen his playing time diminish significantly over the past year. Once a crucial part of Mikel Arteta's defensive setup, he has been restricted to just four Premier League starts this season. This is due to a combination of a serious knee injury, the outstanding form of summer signing Jurrien Timber, and the continued excellence of William Saliba.

Why Liverpool Emerge as a Logical Destination

The speculation around White's future comes at a time when Liverpool are actively assessing their defensive options. A key driver is the uncertain contract situation of centre-back Ibrahima Konate, whose deal is winding down, potentially creating a vacancy in the squad.

Murphy, speaking to BoyleSports, highlighted White's suitability: "I think he’s a really good footballer, he’s a big lad... he’s an experienced guy, he’s played a lot of games and he can play centre-back and right-back." The promise of more regular first-team football at Anfield could be pivotal for White, who is also keen to reignite his stalled England career ahead of the next international cycle.

Increased Competition at the Emirates

Arsenal's own recruitment has inadvertently pushed White down the pecking order. The arrivals of defenders Piero Hincapié and Cristhian Mosquera last summer have further intensified competition for places in North London. While the club's preference is to retain the 26-year-old, the player's desire for a fresh challenge and consistent minutes could override that stance.

Although Everton have also been credited with interest, a move to Liverpool represents a clearer opportunity to compete for major honours. Murphy concluded that the transfer "would make sense" for the Merseyside club, leaving Arsenal with a difficult decision to make before the January window closes.
