The agent of Arsenal target Christian Kofane has confirmed he has held talks with the Gunners over a potential transfer, stating that Mikel Arteta 'very much likes him'. Eric Depolo, who represents the 19-year-old Bayer Leverkusen striker, claims Arsenal are in 'pole position' to secure his signature.
Kofane, who joined Leverkusen from Albacete for £4.4million last summer, has scored seven goals and provided five assists in his debut season. Despite not being a regular starter, the Cameroonian played 90 minutes in both legs of Leverkusen's Champions League round-of-16 clash with Arsenal last month, where he impressed despite not scoring.
Depolo revealed that several other top clubs are interested, including Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton, Brentford, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. However, he believes Arsenal have an advantage due to Arteta's Spanish heritage and the presence of Cameroon-born defender William Saliba at the club. 'There is contact between me and Arsenal,' Depolo said, adding that the club's immediate focus is on winning the league.
Depolo described Kofane as a '€100m (£87.3m) player' and 'the best under-21 striker in Europe', highlighting his speed, technique, defensive work and aerial ability. Arsenal's forward line could see changes in the summer, with speculation surrounding Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.
