New Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso is prioritising a new first-choice goalkeeper this summer, with Robert Sanchez and Emiliano Martinez both under consideration. The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder, who succeeded Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge, wants a more commanding presence between the posts.
Sanchez and Martinez on the Shortlist
According to reports, Chelsea have drawn up a shortlist that includes Brighton's Robert Sanchez and Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez. Sanchez, 25, impressed during his time at the Amex Stadium, while Martinez has established himself as one of the Premier League's top keepers since joining Villa in 2020.
Current Keepers Under Pressure
The current Chelsea goalkeepers, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy, have faced criticism for inconsistent performances last season. Alonso is keen to add competition and stability to the position, with the club expected to make a move in the upcoming transfer window.
