Agent's Real Madrid Ambition for Florian Wirtz Uncovered
German agent Volker Struth has disclosed his desire for Liverpool's Florian Wirtz to eventually play for Real Madrid, following unsuccessful attempts to orchestrate a transfer last summer. The 22-year-old midfielder was among Europe's most sought-after talents in 2025 after a standout season with Bayer Leverkusen.
High-Profile Interest and Record Move
Wirtz attracted attention from top clubs including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City. However, Liverpool secured his signature with a British record fee of £116 million. Struth, a prominent agent in Germany who has collaborated with Wirtz, initially aimed to facilitate a move to the Bernabeu alongside then-Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso.
In an interview with Phrasenmaher, Struth recounted: "During the period when a move to Liverpool or Bayern was being discussed, I called Xabi Alonso and told him: 'You have to take the lad from Leverkusen with you to Real.'" Alonso responded by advising Struth to communicate directly with Real president Florentino Perez.
Direct Appeal to Florentino Perez
Struth subsequently messaged Perez, stating: "Dear Florentino, I've told you many times before: I have a player here whom I would highly recommend. Florian Wirtz makes every team in the world better." Despite this endorsement, Perez focused on reinforcing Real Madrid's defence, allocating funds to sign Dean Huijsen, Alvaro Carreras, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and forward Franco Mastantuono for a combined £140 million.
Struth explained: "That year, it simply wasn't the right time due to the squad and the budget. Even Real Madrid's coffers aren't always overflowing. But my wish remains that Florian will play there one day."
Influence and Current Situation
The extent of Struth's influence over Wirtz's future remains uncertain, as the Germany international is directly represented by his father, Hans-Joachim. Struth has previously been involved in the player's marketing activities.
At Liverpool, Wirtz has begun to adapt, contributing six goals and three assists in his last 14 appearances. He was slated to start in a recent 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest but withdrew due to a back injury sustained during warm-up. Manager Arne Slot indicated the issue is not severe, expressing optimism about Wirtz's availability for upcoming matches.
