Agent's Real Madrid Transfer Wish for Liverpool Star Florian Wirtz Unveiled
German agent Volker Struth has disclosed his desire for Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz to eventually play for Real Madrid, following unsuccessful attempts to orchestrate a move last summer. Wirtz, aged 22, was highly sought after in 2025 after a standout season with Bayer Leverkusen, attracting interest from top European clubs including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City.
Liverpool's Record Signing Amid Transfer Battle
Ultimately, Liverpool secured Wirtz's signature in a £116 million deal, which set a British transfer record at the time. However, Struth, a prominent agent in Germany who has collaborated with Wirtz, initially aimed to facilitate a transfer to Real Madrid alongside then-Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso.
In an interview with Phrasenmaher, Struth recounted: "During the period when a move to Liverpool or Bayern was being discussed, I called Xabi Alonso and told him: 'You have to take the lad from Leverkusen with you to Real.'" Alonso responded by advising Struth to communicate directly with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
Direct Appeal to Florentino Perez
Struth followed through, sending a message to Perez: "Dear Florentino, I've told you many times before: I have a player here whom I would highly recommend. Florian Wirtz makes every team in the world better." Despite this endorsement, Perez opted to focus on reinforcing Real Madrid's defence and other areas during the transfer window.
The club invested £140 million in signings such as Dean Huijsen, Alvaro Carreras, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and forward Franco Mastantuono. Struth explained: "That year, it simply wasn't the right time due to the squad and the budget. Even Real Madrid's coffers aren't always overflowing. But my wish remains that Florian will play there one day."
Wirtz's Current Form and Injury Update
Since joining Liverpool, Wirtz has begun to adapt to the Premier League, contributing six goals and three assists in his last 14 appearances. However, he recently suffered a minor back injury during the warm-up before a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, leading to his withdrawal from the starting lineup.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot provided reassurance: "We don't think it is very serious. He felt his back too much during the warm-up to start. He wasn't able to be 100 per cent or close to 100 per cent. I think after being in this league for six, seven or eight months that no matter how good you are on the ball, you need to be 100 per cent at this level. So we decided not to play him but hope and expect him to be with us next week."
Future Influence and Representation
The extent of Struth's influence over Wirtz's future career moves remains uncertain. While Struth has been involved in the player's marketing activities, Wirtz is directly represented by his father, Hans-Joachim. This dynamic could impact any potential future negotiations, including a possible move to Real Madrid as Struth hopes.
As Wirtz continues to develop at Liverpool, the agent's persistent wish for a transfer to the Spanish giants adds an intriguing subplot to the player's ongoing journey in professional football.
