Jack Draper Withdraws, Joining Raducanu on Sidelines
Jack Draper, the leading British men's hope, pulled out on Monday after his arm injury flared up. He had made a positive return at the Eastbourne Open last week, reaching the semi-finals before losing to Ugo Humbert. Draper was watched by his new coach, Sir Andy Murray, who was set to be in his player's box. Draper was scheduled to face American sixth seed Taylor Fritz on Centre Court but confirmed he could not play at the All England Club this summer. His withdrawal followed that of Emma Raducanu, who withdrew late Sunday night due to a stress fracture in her lower right leg.
Serena Williams Returns to Singles After Four-Year Retirement
Serena Williams headlines Centre Court as the final wildcard entry in the women's draw. The 41-year-old, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, returns to singles after a four-year retirement and will face Maya Joint of Australia in the last match on Centre Court.
Defending Champion Swiatek Opens on Centre Court
Defending champion Iga Swiatek, seeded third, opens proceedings on Centre Court against doubles specialist Taylor Townsend of the USA. Following Swiatek, newly-crowned French Open winner Alexander Zverev, seeded second, takes on Alexander Blockx of Belgium.
Katie Boulter Leads British Hopes on Court No. 3
With Draper and Raducanu out, Katie Boulter is now one of the last British players in either draw. She opens her campaign on Court No. 3 against Tyra Caterina Grant of Italy.
