Wimbledon Day 2: Serena Williams, Swiatek, Boulter in Action
Wimbledon Day 2: Serena Williams, Swiatek, Boulter

The second day of Wimbledon 2026 features a star-studded lineup on Centre Court, with Serena Williams making her long-awaited return to singles tennis after a four-year retirement. The 41-year-old seven-time Wimbledon champion headlines the day's play as a wildcard entry, facing Maya Joint of Australia in the final match on Centre Court.

Defending Champion Swiatek Opens Play

Defending champion Iga Swiatek, seeded third, kicks off proceedings on Centre Court against doubles specialist Taylor Townsend of the USA. Following Swiatek, newly-crowned French Open winner Alexander Zverev, seeded second, takes on Alexander Blockx of Belgium.

British hopes rest on Katie Boulter, who opens her campaign on Court No3 against Tyra Caterina Grant of Italy. Boulter is now one of the last British players remaining in either draw after Jack Draper withdrew due to an arm injury.

Draper and Raducanu Withdraw

Jack Draper pulled out on Monday after his arm injury flared up again, meaning he cannot compete at the All England Club this summer. He had been handed a tricky first-round test against American sixth seed Taylor Fritz on Centre Court. Draper had made a positive comeback at the Eastbourne Open last week, reaching the semi-finals before falling to Ugo Humbert, and was watched by his new coach Sir Andy Murray.

Compatriot Emma Raducanu also withdrew late Sunday night due to a stress fracture in her lower right leg.
