Tennis Star Accuses Male Player of Sliding into DMs with Flirty Messages
American tennis star Danielle Collins has publicly accused French player Corentin Moutet of sending her flirty direct messages, igniting a heated controversy at the Miami Open. The incident, which unfolded over the weekend, has drawn significant attention as both athletes offer conflicting accounts of their interactions.
Collins Reveals Alleged Flirting on Air
While working as a pundit for the Tennis Channel due to an injury, Collins, aged 32, shared details of what she described as an unsuccessful flirting attempt by Moutet. During a segment on the channel, she recounted how Moutet, the world No.33, allegedly cat-called her during a practice session before his match against Tomas Machac on Saturday.
Presenter Steve Weissman set the scene, noting Moutet's shouts of encouragement directed at Collins. In response, Collins claimed she told him, "If you're going to be flirting with me like that, you're going to have to get a bigger serve." She elaborated that her preferences in dating hinge on athletic prowess, such as powerful forehands and serves, rather than height or personality.
Height Preferences and Social Media Drama
Collins further explained that Moutet had unfollowed her on social media after a viral post where she expressed disinterest in "short kings," citing her own height of 5'10" as a factor. She alleged that Moutet later slid back into her direct messages, asking if she had seen his match and the big serves he hit during his victory.
When questioned if this changed her opinion, Collins remained skeptical, stating, "I don't think he has a chance yet. He would have to bring a lot to the table, so I don't think it's going to happen, but who knows. We'll see."
Moutet's Furious Denial
Corentin Moutet, who is listed at 5'11", responded angrily to Collins' claims on social media, despite preparing for a match against world No.1 Jannik Sinner. In a post, he denied ever following Collins and accused her of spreading falsehoods for attention.
"How can I unfollow you when I never followed you," Moutet wrote. "@TennisChannel how can you let someone say BS like this on tv? You followed me. You asked me for mixed dubs. And I’ve never even followed you. You ready to say anything so people talks about you. You should learn how to love yourself so you won’t have to do stupid things for people loves."
This public dispute has overshadowed some of the tennis action at the Miami Open, highlighting tensions off the court. Both players continue to stand by their versions, leaving fans and commentators divided over the truth of the matter.
