Jannik Sinner displayed remarkable humility and sportsmanship in his on-court interview with the BBC's Annabel Croft moments after defeating Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the Wimbledon semi-final on Friday, July 10, 2026. The victory secured Sinner's second consecutive Wimbledon final appearance, setting up a blockbuster match against Alexander Zverev.
Sinner's Immediate Gratitude
Instead of focusing on his own achievement, Sinner turned his attention to the crowd and his opponent. “Amazing,” he told Croft. “First of all thanks for staying, thanks for coming. The atmosphere has always been amazing since the first day. It means a lot to me that I can play one more final here. It’s the most special tournament we have and it means a lot to me.”
The world number one's response highlighted his respect for the occasion and the fans, who had braved the London weather to witness the clash.
Praise for Djokovic
Sinner also took time to acknowledge Djokovic's enduring greatness. “Of course playing against Novak, the level he is showing is a true inspiration. Not only for you guys but also the new generation. What he is still doing is amazing. Incredible,” Sinner added. The 24-year-old Italian has now beaten Djokovic in consecutive Wimbledon semi-finals, having also defeated him en route to his first SW19 title 12 months ago.
Final Showdown with Zverev
Sinner will face Alexander Zverev in the final, a rematch of last year's championship match which Sinner won in five sets. The German has been in formidable form, dropping only two sets en route to the final. Sinner, however, has looked equally dominant, not losing a set throughout the tournament.
According to BBC Sport, Sinner's performance against Djokovic was described as 'flawless' by commentators, with the Italian winning 80% of points on his first serve and breaking Djokovic three times.
