Selwyn Cobbo delivered a memorable State of Origin performance, scoring three tries and making a try-saving tackle as Queensland defeated New South Wales 44-24 in Game Two at the MCG. The victory leveled the series at 1-1, setting up a decider at Suncorp Stadium.
Maroons' Second-Half Onslaught
Trailing 12-8 at halftime, Queensland scored six tries in the second half to secure a 20-point win before a record State of Origin crowd of 91,761. The Blues, favored to win the series, collapsed under pressure, with coach Laurie Daley facing criticism for questionable selections and a failure to use his bench early in the second half.
Queensland captain Cameron Munster played one of his finest games in maroon, Sam Walker silenced doubts about his Origin readiness, and Cobbo produced a standout performance on the wing. The Maroons' comeback will be remembered as one of their greatest, while NSW will rue a disastrous second half marked by ill-discipline and defensive lapses.
First Half Action
The first half saw NSW dominate physically, but the scoreline flattered Queensland. The Blues led 12-8 after tries from Kotoni Staggs and debutant Mark Nawaqanitawase. Queensland's only try came against the run of play, with a brilliant last-tackle play involving Munster, Max Plath, and Trent Loiero. Munster was sent for a head injury assessment after the try.
Cobbo's Brilliance
Selwyn Cobbo sparked Queensland's second-half revival, scoring three tries. The first came from a Munster kick, the second from a slick scrum play involving Walker and Kalyn Ponga, and the third was a spectacular putdown. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow also crossed, while Lindsay Collins added another. NSW's Mitch Barnett scored a late consolation try.
The win sets up a thrilling decider at Suncorp Stadium, where Queensland will aim to retain the shield.
