Andy Robertson: Scotland Ready to Make World Cup History Against Morocco
Scotland Ready to Make World Cup History Against Morocco

Andy Robertson says Scotland's players are ready to become World Cup history-makers by getting the point they need against Morocco to qualify for the knockout stage, writes Scott McDermott in Boston.

Belief and Determination

Steve Clarke's side know a draw in Boston on Friday night will virtually guarantee their place in the last 32. After picking up a 1-0 victory against Haiti in their first game, Robertson and Co could become the first Scotland team ever to get out of their group at a major tournament.

But the Spurs full-back says Clarke's boys are full of belief that they can pull it off and etch their names into Scottish football folklore.

Robertson said: "We've always thought every game we play is a big opportunity. Saturday was a really good result and got us the three points, which we needed. Now we go into the next game looking for the same. We know what we want to try and create. We know what we want to try and do. But we know we're going to need more. We're looking forward to it."

Avoiding Distractions

The Scotland captain acknowledged the historic significance but stressed the need to stay focused on the task at hand.

"You try not to think too much about it (making history) because we've got such tough tasks ahead of us. But I don't think any of the lads or coaching staff have shied away from it. We want to be the first team to be able to do it for our country and it's a nice feeling. We know how difficult it's going to be. We're now playing against one of the best teams in the world but we believe we can make any game difficult. If we can do that and if we can put in our best performance, I believe we can get what we want and hopefully be the ones that achieve history."

World Cup Win Since 1990

Scotland picked up their first World Cup win since 1990 by seeing off the Haitians thanks to John McGinn's winner. With Brazil still to face in their last Group C game, it's imperative Clarke's side try to take something off the African champions.

Mohamed Ouahbi's side are currently sixth in the FIFA world rankings, which illustrates how difficult it's going to be for Scotland. But Robertson insists they'll never doubt their ability to get a positive result.

Full of Belief

"We believe in ourselves. I don't think we would be here if we didn't. We've had to believe many times in the qualifying campaign that we could do it when maybe people didn't think we could. Just take the Denmark game, they equalised twice but we just kept believing. So this squad's full of belief.

"We know we've got a tough game tomorrow. We know we're playing one of the best in the world. But we also believe that if we perform to our maximum, then we can make it difficult for anyone. I think we've proven that over the years. It's up to us to be at our best. It's up to us to execute the game plan. Hopefully if we can do that, we can get the point or the three points that we need to make it."
