Marcus Rashford has no interest in joining Tottenham, or any other English club, this summer, as he prepares to return to Manchester United. The England international is still expected to leave Old Trafford despite Barcelona opting against triggering their £26 million option to sign him permanently.
Rashford's Preference for a Foreign Move
According to The Athletic, Rashford has no desire to play for a Premier League rival, with only a move abroad of interest at this stage. Barcelona instead signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle for £70 million, leaving Rashford in a quandary when he returns from international duty at the World Cup with England.
Manchester United's Stance and Financial Details
United wish to avoid a third loan for Rashford, and he is currently not being targeted by suitors of a level that would tempt him to leave Old Trafford. Barcelona covered Rashford's £375,000-a-week salary during his loan spell, but Manchester United are expected to take on that wage from July 1. The Sun reports that United are in no rush to decide Rashford's future and have not ruled out reintegrating him into the squad.
Tottenham's Interest and Rashford's Response
The same report adds that Tottenham are prepared to pay Rashford's salary, but the player appears not currently interested in exploring options elsewhere in England. This leaves Spurs without a viable option for the forward.
Harry Maguire's Support
Former teammate Harry Maguire expressed hope that Rashford still has a future at United. Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Maguire said: “I have an amazing relationship with Marcus and have had great times with him over the years. I know what a wonderful player he can be. It’s up to the club and Marcus to find a mutual agreement. Of course, if Marcus does come back, we want him to play and be happy and confident. It needs to be right for himself, it needs to be right for the club. But everyone knows what a great player Marcus can be for whatever club he plays for next season.”
