Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Samuel Martinez from Atletico Nacional. The 17-year-old attacking midfielder from Colombia was a standout performer in the South American U17 Championship victory in April. He will join the Reds' academy in 2027 and remain with Nacional for the upcoming campaign.
Third summer signing
Martinez follows fellow young stars Mor Talla Ndiaye and Ifeanyi Ndukwe to Anfield. The central defensive pair both agreed moves to Merseyside in January. Liverpool paid a reported £750,000 fee for Martinez, and Andoni Iraola's side will oversee his development during his remaining year in Colombia.
The Merseysiders beat numerous European clubs to the youngster's signature, having first opened talks in May. Martinez has not yet played a senior match for Nacional but will hope to break into the first team as he turns 18.
Upcoming tournaments
Martinez is set to feature for Colombia at the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar in November. Meanwhile, Ndiaye and Ndukwe have been included in Iraola's squad for the pre-season tour of the United States, which began yesterday.
The Reds will face Sunderland, Wrexham and Leeds in the US before returning to Anfield for friendlies against Monaco and Como ahead of their Premier League opener against Newcastle United at St James' Park.
