Kyrgios to Face Sabalenka in Battle of the Sexes Exhibition

Nick Kyrgios is set to take on women's world number one Aryna Sabalenka in a Battle of the Sexes exhibition match in Dubai on 28 December. The Australian former Wimbledon finalist and the Belarusian confirmed the clash on social media, drawing comparisons to the iconic 1973 match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs.

Kyrgios, who has been plagued by injuries and is currently ranked 652nd, will likely play under modified rules, including being restricted to a single serve. “When the world No 1 challenges you, you answer the call,” said Kyrgios. “I’ve got massive respect for Aryna; she’s a powerhouse and a true champion. But I’m not just here to play, I’m here to entertain.”

Sabalenka, 27, expressed her admiration for Billie Jean King's legacy. “I have so much respect for Nick and his talent, but make no mistake, I’m ready to bring my A-game,” she said. The match follows a tradition of mixed-gender exhibitions, including Margaret Court's defeat to Bobby Riggs in 1973 and Pat Cash's loss to Johanna Konta in 2017.

Kyrgios has barely played in recent years due to injury, with only six matches since October 2022, winning just one. The exhibition is expected to be a spectacle, with both players committed to entertaining the crowd.
