British wildcard Arthur Fery has stormed into the Wimbledon semi-finals, where he will face world No. 2 Alexander Zverev for a place in the final. The 23-year-old powered past Flavio Cobolli in straight sets on Wednesday, maintaining his stunning form at SW19.
Fery's Path to the Semi-Finals
Fery's remarkable run includes four consecutive matches that went beyond the minimum number of sets, overcoming Damir Dzumhur, Otto Virtanen, Zizou Bergs, and Grigor Dimitrov before his dominant quarter-final victory. He is now one win away from reaching the final.
Andy Murray's Influence
Fery has often spoken about the impact of two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray on his development. “I've had the chance to play with Andy a few times over the past years,” Fery said in 2024. “Just playing with him, you learn a lot, from the way he strikes the ball to how he carries himself on court. He's just a great, great role model for all young aspiring British players.”
Before Wimbledon began last month, Fery again acknowledged Murray's influence: “I grew up watching him win Grand Slams and he has had a massive influence on everyone in Britain. I've hit with him at the NTC and that is a bit surreal.”
Calm Under Pressure
Fery has demonstrated calmness under pressure throughout the tournament, mirroring Murray's professional demeanor. His next obstacle is Zverev, the reigning French Open champion. If Fery wins, he will face either world No. 1 Jannik Sinner or seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic in the final.
Murray, who was once Djokovic's greatest rival before they later worked together as player and coach, suffered three consecutive semi-final defeats and a final loss before winning Wimbledon in 2013. Fery aims to create a different story, with a victory over Zverev putting him just one win from the trophy.
