Mexican media have disclosed the location of England's training ground in Mexico City ahead of their World Cup 2026 last-16 match against the co-hosts. The leak comes amid fears that thousands of Mexican supporters may attempt to disrupt the Three Lions' preparations by descending on their hotel and denying them sleep.
Match details and concerns
England will face Mexico at the high-altitude Azteca Stadium on Monday at 1am BST, or Sunday evening local time. Thomas Tuchel's side advanced to the last 16 after a 2-1 victory over DR Congo. However, Mexico are expected to provide a tougher challenge, and concerns have grown over potential fan interference.
The fears stem from a recent incident involving Ecuador, who lodged a formal complaint with FIFA after thousands of supporters gathered outside their team hotel ahead of a last-32 match against the hosts. The crowd made considerable noise from midnight into the early hours, preventing players from sleeping. Ecuador officials expressed outrage over the lack of sportsmanship and poor conditions.
Training ground revealed
While England officials have tried to keep their team hotel location secret, the training facility has been made public. Several Mexican outlets report that Tuchel's squad will train at La Cantera (The Quarry), the training ground of Liga MX side Club Universidad Nacional, known as Pumas.
According to the Football Association, the team's hotel location may also become known once the coach arrives. The FA has secured FIFA approval to establish roadblocks around the hotel to prevent the scenes witnessed before the Ecuador game.
Tuchel's response
Tuchel acknowledged the potential disruption, stating: "We will expect that of course, but what shall we do? We will bring stuff [like earplugs], of course, but I expect everything."
FIFA rules require squads to arrive in the host city at least 24 hours before kick-off, ensuring at least one night's sleep on Mexican soil. The Three Lions are braced for significant disruption, with locals reportedly ready to use loudspeakers, car horns, music, and motorbikes to disturb the players.
