Emma Raducanu has revealed why she often goes unrecognised while travelling on the London Underground, despite her fame as a British tennis star. The 23-year-old, who recently unveiled a new hairstyle, said that during rush hour, commuters are too focused on their own journeys to notice her.
Speaking about her daily commute, Raducanu said: 'I've been part of rush hour every day, which has also been an experience. But it's like my switch off. As soon as I get on the South Western (Railway) to Waterloo, I'm just like, my day is done now.' She added that while people sometimes recognise her, in rush hour they are 'so locked into their worlds' and 'zoned out'.
Raducanu also noted that she no longer feels the need to hide. 'If people recognise me, and they want to come up to me, then that's great, but I don't necessarily feel like I'm hiding from anything anymore,' she said. Her new look, styled by Italian hairdresser Nicola Noviello, may also contribute to her going unnoticed.
The 2021 US Open champion has had an impressive 2025, despite early exits in her last two tournaments due to injury. She is currently ranked 29th in the WTA rankings with a 28-22 record this season, and her net worth is estimated at £13.5 million.
