Djokovic dismantles Tsitsipas in straight sets at Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic delivered a commanding performance on Centre Court, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the third round of Wimbledon. The 39-year-old seventh seed produced an almost flawless display, hitting 33 winners against just seven unforced errors, and converting four of five break points.

Djokovic's dominant display

Djokovic served brilliantly throughout, rolling through his service games and consistently finding the lines on key points. He dismantled Tsitsipas's second serve and was supreme on big points, winning four of his five break opportunities. By the end, he was seeing the ball with clarity and striking cleanly off both wings, completely dominating from the baseline.

“You feel very happy and satisfied and joyful on the court when you’re playing this way,” Djokovic said after the match. “I feel great. I’ve said this so many times before. I try not to take these moments for granted, playing on Centre Court, the childhood dream tournament. I feel very privileged to be walking out on the court at age 30-plus. I don’t think it’s a cliche, I actually believe it’s true, age is just a number.”

Tsitsipas struggles continue

For Tsitsipas, the match highlighted the ongoing challenges in his career. His ranking has fallen to 87, his lowest since January 2018, due to a combination of physical issues and weaknesses in his game, particularly his one-handed backhand and return of serve. Djokovic exploited these holes mercilessly.

Tsitsipas announced earlier this week that he had split permanently with his father and coach, Apostolos, after a tumultuous professional relationship that had been a clear obstacle. Despite this, the road back to the top remains long, and Djokovic, showing no signs of slowing down, is likely to still be there.

Looking ahead

Djokovic will next face 25th seed Arthur Rinderknech of France as he continues his quest for a 25th grand slam title. After the match, Djokovic thanked Rory McIlroy, who was watching from the royal box, and jokingly challenged him to a tennis match for McIlroy's Masters green jacket. “I don’t think he or any other player would agree to that considering the form I’m in,” Djokovic said.
