The Quiet Support Behind the Tennis Greats
Bec Hewitt, the former Home and Away star, was pictured in a contemplative mood last week, offering quiet support from the stands for her husband Lleyton and their son Cruz during a doubles match. The 42-year-old appeared somewhat downcast during the ATP Challenger event in Sydney, maintaining a low profile as she watched the pair play.
A Nomadic Lifestyle's Emotional Burden
This sighting comes just as Lleyton Hewitt, a newly inducted Sport Australia Hall of Fame legend, publicly acknowledged the significant toll their peripatetic life has taken. He revealed that Bec has quietly shouldered the emotional burden of repeatedly uprooting their young family to support his career and now their son's emerging journey in tennis.
During a heartfelt ceremony, Lleyton praised his wife's resilience. "Bec's travelled the world with us and it's a grind," he stated, according to reports. "And especially with three young kids, we've had to move base and set up overseas. And she's done everything with grace and elegance." He went on to call her the family's "rock," crediting her for enabling his own career longevity.
A Portfolio of Properties Across the Globe
The Hewitts' life has indeed been one of constant movement. They have shifted between numerous homes in Australia and abroad. Since the pandemic alone, they have lived on the Gold Coast, in Melbourne, and in Sydney's eastern suburbs, while also maintaining international bases including one in Nassau in the Bahamas.
Their property transactions highlight this nomadic existence. Their most recent sale involved a luxury Gold Coast beach house, initially purchased for Cruz to be closer to the KDV Academy. They offloaded the home for $4.9 million after reducing the asking price by $200,000, still securing a tidy profit from the original purchase price of $4.305 million.
This sale was part of a larger property strategy. The couple reportedly paid $10.3 million for a resort-style home with six bedrooms, a purchase aided by the record-breaking $15.2 million sale of their Toorak mansion the same year. Their portfolio has previously included homes in Palm Beach, Melbourne, and the Bahamas.
Despite the challenges, Lleyton's admiration for his wife is clear. He expressed eternal gratitude, emphasising that his achievements, shared with their three children - Mia, Cruz, and Ava, are "incredibly special." The tennis great, now retired from singles, is currently partnering with his son Cruz in the New South Wales Open, with Bec ever-present in the background.
